“Play is the highest form of research” – Albert Einstein
Our child care space is divided into 5 rooms:
- Infant Room: 6 weeks to 18 months
- Little Tot Room: 12 months old and walking
- Big Tot Room: 18 months old, sits properly in a chair, feeds themselves, are no longer taking bottles, and naps only once a day
- Little Preschool Room: 2 years old, potty trained (less then 3 accidents a week and expresses when they need to go), and able to focus on a task for 5 minutes,
- Big Preschool Room: 3 years old, able to focus on a task for 15 minutes, and able to hold and use a pencil
Most of the year, we only have kids 6 and under. During school breaks, we welcome kids up to 10 years old.
We are a play-based child care center and incorporate an age-appropriate preschool curriculum into our daily activities. The Little and Big Tot Rooms will work on identifying objects, repetition, nursery rhymes, identifying animals and their sounds, colors, arts and crafts. The Little Preschool Room is introduced to new letters and colors with a corresponding theme each week. They explore the theme through toys, crafts, books and centers (a purposeful way to divide the classroom into different learning areas). The Big Preschool Room builds onto Little Preschool curriculum by incorporating Zoophonics, more independent crafts and a broader range of centers.
Any set schedule is dependent on the children and may change on occasion to adjust to their needs. Activities include: arts and crafts, stories, beginner sign language, music, games, puzzles, blocks, etc. These activities will allow your child to be successful and instill confidence, use and develop language skills, use large and small muscles, learn new ideas and skills, and expose the child to a variety of cultures. The program will also encourage creativity and imagination with various materials and mediums.
Parents are responsible for providing a freezer pack with an insulated container and a ready-to-eat or microwavable packed breakfast, lunch, and snacks for their child.
Please send your child with the appropriate food for the times they will be in attendance. Children who arrive before 8 AM will be served breakfast, morning snack will be served between 9 – 9:30 AM, lunch between 11:30 – 12 PM, and afternoon snack from 2:15 – 2:45 PM. Children will be encouraged to feed themselves and try new foods. Water is offered at various times throughout the day and upon request.
If your child will not be in attendance during scheduled mealtimes, it will be your responsibility to provide that meal, prior to bringing your child to care.
If your child requires a special diet or has any allergies to certain foods, we will need written instructions.
Special treats may be served to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays (cupcakes, ice cream, etc.). Birthday parties will generally begin at 2:15 PM. If you would like to send or bring goodies please make sure they are commercially wrapped, nothing homemade can be served.
Infants and Toddlers:
Parents of infants and toddlers will supply all breast milk/formula and baby food products that you want them to be fed. But they must be in the original unopened containers. Please leave instructions in full detail on amounts, textures, temperatures, as well as if you add breast milk or formula to the cereal or other food items.
Our Infant Room keeps a 1:4 ratio with babies aged 6 weeks to 18 months – dependent on mobility. The lesson plan in this class focuses on milestone development, including messy play, water play, ripping paper, etc. Ms. Heather is excellent at providing the babies with lots of snuggles and attention. She is a pro at learning their signals, personalities, and comfortably laying them down for nap.
The Little Tot Room maintains a 1:5 ratio with walkers who are 12 to 18 months. Curriculum in here focuses on repetition, nursery rhymes, animal recognition and animal sounds. Tots will begin arts and crafts in this room. They have two scheduled outdoor times, as well as two quiet times.
The Big Tot Room ratio is 1:8 with tots from 18 months old until they are fully potty trained. Big Tots can sit properly in a chair, feed themselves, no longer taking bottles and nap only once a day. The play-based curriculum in this class will focus on repetition, nursery rhymes, animal recognition and colors. Tots will enjoy arts and crafts and two scheduled outdoor times.
The Little Preschool Room has a 1:8 ratio with Littles who are at least 2 years old, potty trained, (potty trained is defined as less than three accidents a week and expressing when they need to go), and able to focus on a task for five minutes. The play-based curriculum continues with colors and adds shape and letter recognition. Each week has a different theme, chosen based on the letter of the week and Ms. Sharon’s awesome crafts follow this theme. The Littles have two scheduled outdoor times.
The Big Preschool Room ratio is 1:10 with Bigs who are at least 3 years old, able to focus on a task for 15 minutes and can hold and use a pencil. The play-based curriculum builds on what they started in the Little Preschool Room. They will be reviewing their colors, learning their shapes, letters and numbers. The class includes the Zoophonics curriculum, which teaches letters through animals and whole-body movement to benefit more learning styles. Ms. Taylor’s fun schedule also includes theme based crafts, play-based centers, science and two outdoor scheduled times.
